On the Road Again!

This is the longest travel day of our 52 day trip. We left Gainesville about 8 am and arrived at Allatoona Lake, Old Hwy 41 #3 Campground around 4 pm. The Corp of Engineers manages this campground. It is really beautiful and peaceful on a nice lake. The RV sites are little tight to manuver but we made it without unhooking the car or having to back up.

It is just north of Atlanta. Thank God we got around Atlanta and all the trucks and traffic without any problems and we were in the correct merge lanes! Nobody waved any fingers or finger at us so that's a good thing.

Today we traveled a total of 371 miles. My navigator did an outstanding job of keeping us on I-75. The weather has been clear and sunny, no smoke from fires or rain.

The trip was uneventful. Upon arrival at the campground and after getting set up we saw a rather scrawny fox. At least what we think was a fox. That was the extent of our wildlife.

Do any of you think this is something other than a fox?

A special thank you to Chuck Wilcox. Chuck introduced us to the many campgrounds that the Corps of Engineers manages. This is our first of many future experiences.

The RV just purred down the highway. No problems, easy to drive and arrived refreshed.

Tomorrow on to Pigeon Forge.

May 11, Arrived at America's twin peaks. The drive to Pigeon Forge was smooth. No Problems. Sunny weather and hot about 88. We went to a great restaurant tonight. The Apple Barn. It has been here in Pigeon Forge for about 20 years. We were seated on the side porch, which is inside and air conditioned. The table was rather unique each side of the table had a porch swing for seating! It was hung with chains from the ceiling and at first I wasn't sure we would be able to eat swinging to and fro, but it worked out so good and we ate so much we lost our appetites.

Well that's about it for now staying in a KOA campground close to Dollywood. The campground as Ray Blush knows is just past the arches in town.

We have not been here for at least 25 years. back then it was a two lane highway. Today it is six lanes and very touristy with shows and tourist shops etc.

More later, tomorrow Dollywood.
